SITE MAP

Humans and Other Animals is a web site designed for all those interested in the human-animal relationship.

The site has two main functions:

  • Firstly, it provides academic researchers, students and people who deal with animals in their everyday lives, both professionally or as owners, with information on and links to a wide range of anthrozoological resources.

  • Secondly, it provides me - Dr. Jo Swabe - with a forum to publicise and share the fruits of my own research into human-animal relations with the outside world. You will, for example, find a number of my own articles online, along with further details of my research activities.

As regular visitors will undoubtedly noticed, the site is currently being revamped to improve user-friendliness. It still needs some minor tweaking. Please let me know if you experience any problems, or if any graphics or layout look weird!

E-mail Requests for Information

Since starting this site in 1996, I have been overwhelmed by e-mail, particularly from (aspiring) students.

Given my heavy workload and other activities, I cannot always answer all of this mail. This site contains a FAQ that should answer most of your questions, plus an introductory reading list for literature on human-animal relations.

So kids, before sending me any mail, please check out the site thoroughly to look for an answer to your question. Also, remember that, as a sociologist, I am not always qualified to answer all of your queries, particularly if they relate to issues on animal behaviour, clinical veterinary matters, legislative matters in the US (yes, folks - we don't all live in North America!) and so forth - so don't waste your time (and mine) by asking!

Attention ISAZ Members!

As you may or may not know, I'm the current editor of the ISAZ newsletter. So... if you have any conference announcements, news of any new publications, if you wish to contribute an article, etc. please drop me a line at jo@caliban.org.
