During the past few years, Temple University Press have been publishing some interesting titles in their series Animals, Culture & Society. Take, for example, Arnold Aluke and Clinton R. Sander's book Regarding Animals, which provides a fascinating sociological analysis - based on ethnographic accounts - of human-animal relations in modern industrial society. A highly recommended read.

Another recent publication off the Temple University presses is also another great book penned by Clinton R. Sanders. Understanding Dogs: Living and Working with Canine Companions is a definite must for all those interested in the canine-human bond. Drawing upon ethnographic data - some of which is auto-ethnographic - Sanders examines our everyday experience of living and working with members of the canine species. Even great cat lovers like me will be fascinated by this volume!

In the same series, you'll also find Julian McAllister Groves' study Hearts and Minds: The Controversy over Laboratory Animals and Gary L.Francione's works Animals, Property, and the Law & Rain without Thunder: The Ideology of the Animal Rights Movement, all of which have been hanging around for quite a while on my bookshelves waiting to be read!

Additional titles in the series include Eileen Crist Images of Animals: Anthropomorphism and Animal Mind, Ralph H. Lutts (ed) The Wild Animal Story and Rod Michalko The Two-in-One: Walking with Smokie, Walking with Blindness. Check out the Temple University Press' Catalogue for summaries and further details of these texts

The great thing about having a web site is that you can plug your own work to death. My most recent work Animals, Disease and Human Society: Human-Animal Relations and the Rise of Veterinary Medicine is now available from Routledge in hardback. It's a wee bit pricey, so why not try and get your (university) library to order a copy.

For more information and, more importantly, to order the book (!) check out the Routledge Catalogue. The ISBN number is 0-415-18193-3.

If you've got a new book on human-animal relations that you might want to plug, drop me a line and (if relevant) I'll try to include it on this page. Finally, if you're interested in checking out some other titles dealing with all kinds of aspects of the relationship between ourselves and other animal species, pay a visit to my page on Literature on Human-Animal Relations.
